Poetry Robot Project

APP has developed an innovative program using telepresence robots. In 2022-23 with funding from the State of Wisconsin Health Department, APP partnered with 6 Wisconsin care homes. Click to read the final report.

The robot is currently at Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care in North Riverside, IL, where Glazner is the poet-in-residence.

Performing poetry, family visits, and robot dancing!

The robots allow for direct communication with family, loved ones, community members, schools etc. to provide aid and comfort to isolated elders. Our goal is to help reduce social isolation for elders in long-term care settings.

This program includes a training program of proven non-pharmacological interventions and resident-centered care tools to help improve the quality of life of elders and those with dementia and other psychosocial needs.

In a pilot-project at Saint Paul Elder Services in Wisconsin the residents had a naming contest and named the robot “Rolly.”

McKenzie Krohn, Activities Director, Saint Pauls Elders Services writes, “It is so great to see the residents so engaged with the programs that include the robot. Technology is a relatively new concept for our friends, but the way they interact with the person(s) on the screen is so heartwarming to watch unveil.”
